Radio Mitre

Radio Mitre is the most popular radio in the city of Buenos Aires and in the province of Buenos Aires. It features a mainly informative programming, as well as widely renowned journalists and radio hosts; many of them also host programs on TV. For example, Marcelo Longobardi and Jorge Lanata, opinion leaders with a marked anti-Kirchner profile, have their own programs.

It is one of the strongest brands in the Argentinian radio industry and has local radios in the cities of Mendoza and Córdoba. Holding company Radio Mitre S.A. also features an FM radio in Buenos Aires and another nine licenses across Argentina. Also, through Frecuencia Producciones Publicitarias S.A. and Cadena País Producciones Publicitarias S.A., the company sells its radio content to over 150 radio stations across the country.

Even though it has been historically one of the most popular radios in Buenos Aires, the radio station’s current success is also related to the dismantling of the second most popular AM radio: Radio 10. With an editorial line markedly opposed to the Kirchners, who presided over the country until 2015, Radio Mitre benefited from the changes in Radio 10’s ownership (2013) and editorial line. Many of Radio 10 main figures (including Marcelo Longobardi) moved to Radio Mitre.

It is a radio station with one of the most stable property structures, as it has been managed by Clarín since 1985, in spite of the fact that regulations prohibited print media companies (Clarín) from purchasing radio licenses. Another distinctive feature of Radio Mitre is that it was one of the first multimedia groups in Argentina, since it was founded by newspaper La Nacion in 1925, when radio stations and print media were starting to work jointly.
