Tiempo Argentino is a self-managed media, written by around 100 journalists who decided to create a cooperative to recover the newspaper where they used to work and that was suddenly closed by Grupo 23’s owners, Sergio Szpolski and Matías Garfunkel. Tiempo Argentino reopened as a self-managed media with a print version on Sundays and a digital newspaper from Mondays to Saturdays.
The newspaper did not have its own website, so workers decided to create it from scratch with the few resources they had. At the very beginning, it was a place to promote the newspaper until a digital editorial team was created to update information 24/7.
In mid-2018, after two years of operation, the cooperative launched a re-designed newspaper and a new website, easier to navigate and with a new logo.
Tiempoar has 1.6 million monthly visitors on average.
Unlike the country’s main newspapers, Tiempo Argentino has no paid news system. Access to the website is free. However, some articles are first published for subscribers/members and released to the general public hours later. A similar system has been established to access the digital version of the newspaper.

Decision-making takes place at the cooperative’s General Meeting, which is attended by all the cooperative’s workers. Each worker has a vote and decisions are made by majority vote.
