Canal 8, from Córdoba, was one of the first channels to be sold by auction outside the city of Buenos Aires in 1963. However, in1971 a lawsuit was filed to cancel the award.
In 1989, when TV channels 11 and 13 in Buenos Aires were privatized, a TV corporate trust, which included Dicor S.A. (Teleocho’s licensee), took part in the award. The trust was awarded Canal 11, which would be later called Telefé. From that moment on, it became part of a nine-channel network across the country. In 1998 the network was acquired by Atlántida Comunicaciones (REVISAR) and, in 1999 it was purchased by Telefónica, a Spanish company. In 2016 the trust was sold to VIACOM, of American capitals.
Since it belongs to a channel network with a headend in Buenos Aires (Telefé), Canal 8 repeats a great deal of its programming (especially fiction shows). Morning and mid-morning news and magazine shows are locally produced. With this programming, it ranks second among the most popular channels in the province of Córdoba.
